Latest Electric Cars in 2023: Fisker Ocean, Renault Megane E-Tech, Nio EL6, and More

The time for the most expensive electric cars seems to be over – at least here at home. For the Porsche Taycan, which was among the best-selling cars for several months last year, it has come to an abrupt halt. Tesla’s new Model S and X are selling almost nothing.

Now more sober family cars, preferably SUVs, are in the air. The Tesla Model Y has had a formidable start to 2023, but this autumn several competitors will appear such as Fisker Ocean, Renault Megane E-Tech and Nio EL6. In addition, there will be a number of other affordable electric cars on the market. Opel Astra comes as an electric car, Mini comes with new Cooper E and Peugeot with electric 308.

The very cheapest

Not to mention the small Volvo EX30, which is priced from NOK 321,000 and the second generation Hyundai Kona, where you get a range of over 500 kilometers for under NOK 400,000. Ford’s rugged electric SUV Explorer, which was originally supposed to arrive in Norway before long, has been postponed for six months and will not appear until next summer.

For anyone looking for a new car, there is reason to follow what happens at the big motor show in Munich at the beginning of September. A lot of exciting things happen there.

Fisker Ocean – over 700 kilometer

When Fisker now launches its first electric car, it will be a car for most people, according to Danish Henrik Fisker. “This will be the best on the market,” states elbil24 after a test drive. Ocean, as it is called, delivers on what most customers are concerned about – price, space and range. That means plenty of room for a family with children and a range of over 700 kilometers, according to the WLTP test. The car also has solar cells in the panoramic glass roof which contributes to this.

Ocean will compete with, among others, Tesla Model Y and Volkswagen ID.4D. The most expensive version costs NOK 680,000, while the cheapest with two-wheel drive costs from NOK 394,000. It is reasonable compared to the competition.

Renault Scenic E-Tech – family favourite

“We have changed everything except the name”, says Renault’s strategy manager Sylvia Dos Santos about the new Scenic E-Tech, which will be presented at the Munich Motor Show. In 1996, the first car with this name appeared. Now comes the electric version, which will also be quite a bit larger and a car that should be a good fit for a family with children.

The new super electric car

The first cars may arrive in Norway late this year, but Renault has not yet announced range and price. The Tesla Model Y is a competitor, with a price that starts at just under NOK 450,000 and a range of 455 kilometers.

BMW i5 – popular for 50 years

BMW i5 Show more

After seven generations and 50 years on the road, the BMW 5 series has become a popular car in Norway. In October, the electric i5 will be available in Norway. In terms of appearance, no revolution from the current model, but it has become a large car of over five metres.

The i5 comes with both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. In both versions, the battery pack is 81.5 kWt, which gives a range of up to 582 kilometres. The price for the car with rear-wheel drive starts at just under NOK 700,000, while you have to shell out over a million for the car with two engines and four-wheel drive. Admittedly, then you also get a performance of over 500 horses

Hyundai Kona – over 50, under 400 000

The Hyundai Kona is well known and loved in Norway with over 20,000 examples on the road. When the first one came to Norway six years ago, several thousand queued to buy. Now the new Kona is just around the corner and it has become 15 centimeters longer, which makes it attractive to more people.

But perhaps even more important is that you can now get an electric car for under NOK 400,000 that has a range of over 500 kilometres. The long range version starts at NOK 387,900 and has an official range of 514 kilometres. Kona also comes in a less expensive version with a slightly smaller battery.

Volkswagen ID.7 – luxury sedan

Volkswagen is continuing its powerful electric car investment – now with the large sedan ID.7 of almost five metres. The car has already been test driven by elbil24, which boasts a lot about the driving comfort.

Warns 70,000 Norwegians

In Norway, it comes with two battery packs – one of 77 kWh, which gives a range of 615 kilometres, and a slightly larger one of 85 kWh which should be able to take you 700 kilometers before you have to charge again. These are good figures for anyone who does a lot of long driving, and which is not least due to the car’s low air resistance. The ID.7 will soon also be available as a station wagon, which will almost certainly become the best seller in Norway.

Volvo EX30 – a price bomb

Volvo’s new, small electric SUV will be a price bomb. EX30 is the name and the first cars can arrive in Norway already late this year. This is the smallest SUV Volvo has made so far, measuring 4.23 meters from bumper to bumper. Nevertheless, the trunk should be around 400 litres, according to Volvo.

The EX30 gets two battery sizes. The cheapest gets a battery of 51 kWt which gives a range of 350 kilometres. The more expensive versions get a battery of 69 kWt, which gives a range of 480 kilometers on the car with rear-wheel drive – slightly shorter on the version with four-wheel drive. A starting price of NOK 321,900 including shipping and delivery is surprisingly low. This will probably be Volvo’s best-selling car going forward.

Nio EL6 – an exciting Chinese

It feels like it was yesterday that the Chinese Nio appeared in Norway. In a very short time, the factory has launched a number of new models in Norway. This autumn it is ready for the Nio EL6 – an SUV in the middle of the best-selling segment in Norway. This is Nio’s most important car so far.

It is slightly larger than the VW ID4 and Tesla Model Y and you can choose between 75 or 100 kWt batteries. The largest gives a range of 529 kilometers and the price starts at just under NOK 500,000. The EL6 otherwise has plenty of new equipment – including the personal assistant Nomi, who sits on the dashboard and acts as a co-pilot.
