A búcaro is a small clay jar made with red clay and water. These pieces were made by potters from Tonalá, Jalisco, and for many years were favorites of the 17th century Spanish court. An immense number of búcaros traveled from Mexico to the ports of the kingdom of Spain in warehouses that crossed the Atlantic Ocean. Those warehouse-ships that transported Jalisco vases along with a wide variety of merchandise were called galleons.

On the other hand, bucarophagy is the act of devouring a bucaro. In those years, people ate búcaros for their medicinal properties and hallucinogenic effects.

It is worth mentioning that in the table Las Meninas, by Diego Velázquez, created in 1656, shows a vase from Tonalá. This is one of Velázquez’s largest works and one in which he put the greatest effort to create a complex and credible composition that conveyed the sensation of life and reality, and at the same time contained a dense network of meanings.

Now, with this show, the Teatro El Galeón Abraham Oceransky52 years later, it will return to being a winery.

The Teatro Ojo group originated in 2002 in Mexico City. His practice has shifted from strictly theatrical territories towards other ways of thinking and conceiving the scene. For some years Teatro Ojo has developed artistic projects that are located in a zone of disciplinary indefinition that has allowed us to expand forms of expression, participation, reception and critical assessment of our works.

During this time, he has carried out works for specific sites in which he explores not only other possibilities of conceptualizing the scenic space, but open dramaturgy processes in which reality is the absolute arbiter. These pieces, more than representing reality, are directly confronted with it. In these territories, the priority is to put the immediate in frequency, where relations with the viewer are reformulated to invite them to be co-producers of signs and meanings.

The Teatro Ojo project is made up of Héctor Bourges, Karla Rodríguez, Patricio Villarreal, Laura Furlan, Fernanda Villegas, Alonso Arrieta and Sabina Rodríguez; the sound design is by Juan E. Díaz, the lighting, by Aurelio Palomino, Diego Martínez as sound engineer; the pottery, from Taller Fajardo and the Tastoan masks, by Jesús Delgado.
