Happy Friday and Happy Veterans Day. Thank you to everyone who has served the United States so that the rest of us can have freedom. In our case, we can talk freely about the weather every day. A third of November has passed and it is the 10th warmest start of November on record for Houston. What’s left of the month won’t be exactly like this. In fact, it looks downright chilly for the coming week. The change of season begins tonight.
Hello
If you’re busy this morning, you should be fine. No real rain is forecast and, apart from some drizzle on the radar this morning, all is silent. In the afternoon things start to change. It won’t rain everywhere, but we expect scattered showers and thunderstorms to start appearing. In practice, if you have plans after 2 or 3 pm, you risk running into the rain.
The Storm Prediction Center placed us today at marginal risk (level 1 out of 5) for severe storms, with a slight risk (2/5) towards Matagorda Bay and Corpus Christi. Basically, any thunderstorm that develops this afternoon and evening could have gusty winds, frequent lightning strikes, and the typical heavy downpours we see. We expect storm coverage to gradually but steadily increase as we approach evening. The high temps should hit around 80 or lower.
This evening
The front itself will probably move through the Houston area between 4 and 8 p.m. tonight (we are leaning toward the front end of that range on the west side of the city and the back end of that range on the west side). East ). Intermittent showers or thunder showers are expected to continue until midnight. It will be windy and quite cold during the night.
We expect lows in the 40s in most places. Plus, a gusty breeze will make it feel even a little colder. Get ready tomorrow morning!
Weekend
Both days of the weekend look good. Tomorrow we will have that slightly annoying breeze and temperatures around 50 degrees for most of the day. Winds will be between 15 and 25 mph. Sunday will be similar, but with less wind. We expect highs near 60 Sunday afternoon after another 40 degree morning.
Monday and Tuesday
Clouds will increase on Monday and showers or rain are likely to develop during the day. In the evening, widespread or constant showers should be expected over most of the area. On Monday afternoon we will go back to the low 60s. Another cold front will arrive after Monday night’s rain, returning us to the 2040s by Tuesday morning. The clouds may stay with us on Tuesday morning before clearing in the afternoon, with highs around 50 degrees.
By the time we get to Tuesday, hopefully we’ll all have seen nearly an inch or more of rain between now and Monday.
rest of next week
The rest of the week we will remain in autumn mode with 50 during the day and 40 or even 30 at night in some places. Thursday or Friday morning there could be temperatures below freezing in the outlying areas. It still seems unlikely within the city, but we’ll see how things play out this weekend. At this point, the chances of rain beyond Tuesday appear low.
