The Netherlands currently has about 2500 late covid patients; people who got corona late or much too late. One of them is Mirjam van Mijdregt from Beuningen in Gelderland.

“It started four days ago. I got a fever, a bad cough and I was dead tired,” says Mirjam. “Somewhere in the attic I still had a self-test and it showed that I have corona. Yes, much too late. I think so too. My husband tells me to get out of bed. But I’m really sick. My employer doesn’t take me seriously either. They refuse to accept my sick report. Corona is something from two years ago, they say. I can’t help it that I haven’t been infected before, can I? If you had corona last year, you received all kinds of concerned messages. Now you are being looked at with the neck.”

According to virologist Dr. Eric Stammelhuis, Mirjam is certainly not the only Dutchman who is still in bed with corona. “With every virus there are people who are hopelessly chasing after the rest,” said the doctor. “While we have long focused on the next virus that may conquer the world, such a person still gets sick from an old virus. These are the same people who still listen to music by Marco Borsato and buy NFTs. Then I think: hell, what rock have you been under for the past three years?”
