Late Comedian Seo Se-won’s Funeral Held in Korea: Fellow Comedians and Celebrities Mourn the Loss

The Korean funeral of the late comedian and entrepreneur Seo Se-won is being held starting today, the 30th, as the head of the Korea Comedians Association. His fellow comedians Lee Yong-shik and Eom Young-soo (previously renamed Eom Yong-soo) visited the mortuary and mourned the deceased. According to News 1 on the 30th, on the morning of the 30th, Seo’s mortuary was set up as the head of the Korea Comedians Association in Asan Hospital Funeral Hall No. 20, Songpa-gu, Seoul. Condolences are being accepted from 1:00 p.m. on this day.

Seo’s comedian senior, Lee Yong-sik, visited the funeral parlor that day to mourn the death of the deceased. In addition, Eom Young-soo, head of the Korean Broadcasting Comedy Association, Lee Yong-geun, secretary general of the Korea Broadcasting Comedians Association, and the bereaved family are guarding the mortuary as of 2:00 p.m. In front of the deceased’s mortuary, artificial flowers sent by fellow celebrities, such as singer Seol Woon-do and comedian Lim Ha-ryong, were also placed.

Previously, on the afternoon of the 20th, Seo passed away from cardiac arrest while receiving an intravenous drip at Mirae Hospital in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He is 67 years old. It was reported that his deceased had suffered from diabetes as a common chronic disease.

The bereaved family considered moving Seo’s body to Korea for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, but decided to cremate it in Cambodia and bury it in Korea because the local situation was not feasible. The cremation took place in Cambodia on the 28th.

President Eom said to News 1 that day, “It is a quiet atmosphere,” and “There are not many mourners yet.” The funeral of the deceased is coming May 2nd.

Seo debuted in 1979 through the TBC Radio Gag Contest. In the 1990s, he established himself as a talk show host, but was also embroiled in controversies, such as allegations of embezzlement of film production costs.

In 2014, a CCTV video was released showing him assaulting his then-wife, Seo Jeong-hee, which shocked him. Seo, who divorced Jeonghee Seo the following year, remarried in 2016, 23 years younger than her, after a year, remarried to her haegeum player Mr. Kim, and has been living in Cambodia. Seo had a daughter, Seo Dong-ju, and a son, Seo Dong-cheon, with her ex-wife, Seo Jeong-hee. He also fathered a daughter with her remarried wife.
