What have in common Cristiano Ronaldothe players of theAS Nancy Lorraine and soon those of FC Metz ?
The answer is simple: they have been (or will be, from next season) coached by the same man.
Indeed, Thursday June 16, 2022, FC Metz announced the name of Frédéric Antonetti’s successor for the coming season. It is László Bölöni. The 69-year-old Romanian will train his fifth French team. We come back to his feats of arms.
ASNL, the Portuguese championship with CR7 and the composition in 4-6-0
László Bölöni was a player before becoming a coach. Then in 1992, when he retired from the field, he became assistant to the ASNL coach at the time, Olivier Rouyer, before becoming its main coach from 1994 to 2000. He was notably D2 champion in 1998 with the thistle club.
In 2002, he had his richest year with Sporting Portugal: a league-cup-Supercup treble with a young talent under his command at the time, a certain… Cristiano Ronaldo, five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
The Romanian is well known to Ligue 1 fans for having coached Nancy, but also the Rennais Stadiuml’AS Monaco or even the RC Lens. An anecdote in the latter club will perhaps make fans cringe: during a match against… ASNL, the then coach of Lens lined up a 4-6-0 composition. Yes, without attacker.
After bringing a Lorraine club back to the first division, can László Bölöni achieve the same feat with the rival team in 2023?
