In Lithuania, the price of electricity increased by 21% compared to the previous week and was 157.25 euros per MWh. In Estonia, on the other hand, the price rose by 34% to 156.68 euros per MWh.
Electricity prices in the Baltics followed the upward trend in prices in the Nordic countries. Meanwhile, energy flows from Sweden’s SE4 sales area rose by 17%, while flows from Finland fell by 42% and energy flows from Russia were 48% lower than a week earlier.
Last week, the price of the Nord Pool system rose by 122% to 122.93 euros per MWh, mainly due to colder weather, which boosted electricity consumption, and the development of wind farms fell by 27% compared to the week before. Undoubtedly, the increase in the price of the system was also influenced by the rising prices of energy products and carbon emission quotas.
Compared to the week before, consumption in the Nord Pool region increased to 9459 gigawatt hours (GWh), as well as production volumes and 9990 GWh.
Last week, the total electricity consumption in the Baltic States increased by 5%, and a total of 596 GWh was consumed. In Latvia, consumption increased by 6% to 150 GWh. In Estonia, electricity consumption was 7% higher than a week earlier, with a total consumption of 185 GWh. In Lithuania, consumption rose by 3% to 261 GWh.
Last week, total electricity generation in the Baltics increased by 22% to 378 GWh compared to the previous week. In Latvia, electricity generation increased by 50%, and 132 GWh was generated in the previous week. In Estonia, production volumes increased by 30% to 175 GWh. In Lithuania, on the other hand, electricity generation was 19% lower and 71 GWh was generated.
Last week, the volume of development against consumption in Latvia was 88%, in Estonia 95%, but in Lithuania 27%. The Baltic States generated 64% of the electricity consumed in the region.
