Last week the average price of the electricity exchange in Latvia decreased by 14%

Last week, the average price of the electricity exchange in Latvia decreased by 14% – to 113.17 euros per megawatt hour (MWh), informs JSC “Latvenergo“.

The other weekly average price – 113.71 euros per MWh – was also identical in the other Baltic States, decreasing by 12% in Estonia and by 20% in Lithuania.

In the Baltics, electricity prices were mainly affected by higher energy flows from Sweden’s SE4 area, which rose by 80%, and by an increase of 32% from Russia.

The price of the Nord Pool weekly system decreased by 24% to 62.06 euros per MWh. The price reduction of the Nord Pool system was influenced by a 39% increase in wind farm development. In addition, precipitation was above the seasonal norm in the Nordic countries, which led to an improvement in the level of reservoir filling.

Compared to the week before, consumption in the Nord Pool region increased to 7786 gigawatt hours (GWh), and production volumes also increased to 8368 GWh.

Last week, the total electricity consumption in the Baltic States increased by 3%, consuming a total of 524 GWh. In Latvia, consumption was 1% higher or 137 GWh, compared to the previous week, consumption in Estonia rose by 6% to 151 GWh, while in Lithuania consumption increased by 2% to 236 GWh.

Last week, total electricity generation in the Baltics decreased by 11% to 273 GWh. In Latvia, electricity generation was 2% lower, producing 71 GWh in the previous week, in Estonia production volumes were 11% lower or 117 GWh, in Lithuania there was the largest decrease in electricity generation in the Baltics – by 17%, and 85 GWh were generated.

Last week, the development volume against consumption in Latvia was 52%, in Estonia – 77%, but in Lithuania – 36%. The Baltic States produced 52% of the electricity consumed in the region.
