last straight line before a Christmas like no other

Sunday, December 20, many French people flocked to the stores to try to find the ideal Christmas present or to shop for the New Year’s Eve meal. On the stalls of a small market in Grenoble (Isère), everyday products rub shoulders with those that will be on the festive table. “We sell rather well, capons, morels, foie gras”, rejoices a producer.

Customers are getting ready for a New Year’s Eve like no other. Most of them have put an end to the meal with several families. “We will respect barrier gestures, ventilate as much as possible and be really careful”, adds a passerby. In the city center, despite the rain, it’s the race for the last gifts. The health crisis has not weakened the desire to please loved ones. The budget hasn’t changed for much either. However, the prospect of a return to stricter rules in January is already worrying.
