The number of those children above the age of 15 and unemployed in Turkey in April 2020 decreased by 427 thousand persons compared to the same period last year was 3 million 775 thousand people. Unemployment rate realized as 12.8% with a 0.2 point decrease. Non-agricultural unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 point to 14.9%.
RECORD DECREASE IN EMPLOYMENT
The number of employed people decreased by 2 million 585 thousand persons in April 2020 compared to the same period of the previous year, and reached 25 million 614 thousand persons, and the employment rate decreased by 4.9 points to 41.1%.
In this period, the number of employed people decreased by 491 thousand in the agricultural sector, 209 thousand in the industrial sector, 361 thousand in the construction sector, and 1 million 524 thousand in the service sector. 17.5% of the employed people were in agriculture, 20.9% in industry, 4.9% in construction and 56.7% in service sector.
RATE OF PARTICIPATION IN THE WORKPLACE 47.2 percent
Workforce decreased by 3 million 13 thousand people in April 2020 compared to the same period of the previous year, with 29 million 388 thousand people, and the labor force participation rate decreased by 5.7 points to 47.2%.
RATE OF UNREGISTERED EMPLOYEES 28.7 percent
In the April 2020 period, the proportion of unregistered employees, which showed the share of employees among total employees, regardless of any social security institution, decreased by 5.5 points compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 28.7%. The rate of informal workers in the non-agricultural sector decreased by 5.8 points compared to the same period of the previous year and became 17.3%.
The unemployment rate in the 15-64 age group was 13.1% with a 0.2 point decrease compared to the same period of the previous year and the non-agricultural unemployment rate was 15.0% with a 0.1 point decrease. The employment rate in this age group was 45.5% with a decrease of 5.1 points and the labor force participation rate was 52.4% with a decrease of 6 points.
YOUNG POPULATION UNEMPLOYMENT 24.4 PERCENT
The unemployment rate in the young population, which covers the 15-24 age group, increased by 1.2 percentage points compared to the same period of the previous year, and the employment rate decreased by 7 points to 26.1%. In the same period, labor force participation rate decreased by 8.6 points to 34.5%. The ratio of those who are neither in education nor in employment was realized as 29.1% with an increase of 5.7 points compared to the same period of the previous year.
