According to UN figures, more than a thousand children have been killed or injured since the war began, and nearly two out of three have been displaced by fighting. Furthermore, at the beginning of this school year, less than 60% of schools were considered safe and suitable for reopening. At the same time, war and displacement are devastating livelihoods and economic opportunities, leaving many families without enough income to meet their basic needs. (Agencies)
