NASA shared: Ghost sounds of Jupiter!

The US Aerospace Agency (NASA) has released the sounds emitted from Jupiter’s moon Ganymede. The mission, shared at a briefing at the Fall Meeting of the American Geophysical Union, was brought forward by scientists.

Sounds from a Ganymede flyby, magnetic fields, and notable comparisons between Jupiter and Earth’s oceans and atmospheres are discussed.

Juno Principal Investigator Scott Bolton of the Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio prepared a 50-second snapshot created from data collected during the mission’s close flyby of Ganymede on June 7, 2021.

Bolton said, “This soundtrack is wild enough to make you feel as if you’re driving together as Juno passes by Ganymede for the first time in more than two decades. If you listen closely, there’s a spike towards higher frequencies at the midpoint of the recording, which represents an entry into a different region in Ganymede’s magnetosphere. You can hear the change.”

Detailed analysis and modeling of Waves data continues.
