On Tuesday – on the last day of the transfer window – Deniz Hümmet was ready for a return to the Allsvenskan. The 26-year-old, who has a background in Malmö FF, Gefle IF, Trelleborgs FF, IF Elfsborg and Örebro SK, left Turkish Caykur Rizespor for a year with Kalmar FF.
Hümmet now says that the first contact between the parties was made a couple of days ago and is happy that all the papers were completed in time.
– It has gone quite quickly. When I had to make a decision, Kalmar felt the best. I spoke with the coach (Henrik Jensen) and a lot agreed, so I think it will be a good match. It’s good feelings and I’m incredibly excited and hungry to get started, he says to the Football Channel.
Were you stressed that it wouldn’t be ready in time?
– It was a long day yesterday to catch up with everything with all the papers and such, but once everything was ready it felt great. I am happy with my choice and I think it will be great.
Why did you want to move to Kalmar?
– It is above all that I am hungry for much more and want to play, develop and prove myself even more. It was a situation that was not sustainable, and it is a bit special abroad with a different environment. At the same time, it is a good experience, which I will take with me. The biggest reason is that I’m hungry to play and show what I’m about.
Last season, Hümmet mixed appearances with starts in Rizespor in the Süper Lig and during this season has both started matches and been on the sidelines in the Turkish second league.
The 26-year-old played a lot between October last year and February this year, but has been outside the squad for the last few games, for which he has not received an explanation.
– That’s what I find strange, there was no dialogue. It just happened that way and there is a lot of politics abroad, especially over there, but I fought and was professional, I did what I had to and gave my all in every training and match, but it’s a little different abroad. Many who have been abroad can recognize themselves in it. But otherwise I am happy with my time in Rizespor. Rize is a nice city and Rizespor as a club is a very professional and good club.
Alongside the plan, at the beginning of February a tragedy occurred in Turkey, when there was a strong earthquake outside the city of Gaziantep, which resulted in the death of several thousand people.
Hümmet, who lived in Rizer far from the disaster, says it was a terrible time.
– It was a big, big tragedy, the whole country was in mourning. It was terrible. It was calm and safe in my city, but cities that were not very far away were incredibly affected and many died. It’s very sad and it affected. We as players and teams tried to help financially, but also with materials and clothes. The whole country stood together and became one, and football tried to do its part. It was terrible when you were there.
Now Hümmet is back in Sweden and focusing on the upcoming season with KFF. The 26-year-old does not yet know if he can play in Saturday’s opener against Malmö FF in Skåne, but believes it can be a good season under new coach Henrik Jensen.
– Kalmar did great last season together with Rydström (Henrik). Now Henrik Jensen has taken over and I have had a great conversation with him. I like the way he wants to play and it feels exciting for the new season.
Kalmar FF finished last year in fourth place in the Allsvenskan.
