Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar came to Kaş district of Antalya, which is 2 kilometers away from Meis Island in Greece, with the command of General Staff General Yaşar Güler and his accompanying Turkish Armed Forces. Minister Akar and the commanders, who came to the district by helicopter, first visited the Kas District Governorship. Minister Akar and the accompanying delegation accompanied Antalya Governor Ersin Yazıcı. Then, Minister Akar and the commanders came to Kaş Port on foot. Minister Akar, the Artillery Captain who sank the British-flagged ‘Ben My Chree’ for the first time in world war history Mustafa Ertugrul Aker and the commemoration of the corporal Yusuf Ziya Erdil. Minister Akar laid a wreath on the sculpture made in the name of Mustafa Ertuğrul Aker and Yusuf Ziya Erdil and visited the exhibition prepared afterwards. After the ceremony, Minister Akar, walking in the city center, greeted the citizens. Meeting with a little boy eating ice cream, Minister Akar took a souvenir photo with him. The Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar and the command level accompanying him were later transferred to Kaş Naval Surveillance Station Command.
WHO IS MUSTAFA ERTUĞRUL AKER?

Born in 1893 in Crete, Artillery Captain Mustafa Ertuğrul Aker buried the British four-plane ship ‘My Chree’ in the waters of Meis in 1917 with his 4 small guns during the First World War. He dropped another ship out of the war. Burning nearly 200 boats of various sizes and French artillery bastions with cannon fire, Aker sank the French ships ‘Paris 2’ on 13 December 1917 and ‘Alexandra’ in Kemer on 8 March 1918. Mustafa Ertuğrul Aker, who was seriously injured in the clash with the Greeks in Aydın in 1919, died on November 5, 1968 in Antalya, where he settled after retirement.
