24 hours before Christmas Eve, Europe 1 went to a shopping center in the 15th arrondissement to meet those who were looking for the famous last minute gift. Latecomers, sometimes overcome by stress, but ready to do anything to spoil their loved ones.
Finding the ultimate gift to place under the tree can seem like a headache, even a chore, and above all a miracle. However, this is the challenge that several customers of the Beaugrenelle shopping center in the 15th arrondissement of Paris have given themselves. Europe 1 went to meet them this Saturday, on the eve of Christmas Eve.
In this last straight line to find something to spoil their loved ones, these last-minute fans hurry, looking for the rare pearl, their arms full of packages. Like Véronique, interviewed outside a crowded toy store this Saturday afternoon. “It’s crazy crowded. But the checkouts were well organized everywhere, so we moved quite quickly. I think there were more staff,” says this customer who packed a full load of gifts. “For adults, for parents and grandchildren. The little boy wanted a great car, so we found him a great car with a great track.”
“You have to do it well”
Mission accomplished, therefore, for Véronique. Others, however, had more difficulty filling their hood. Alexandre went out for a few moments to smoke a cigarette and take a break from his gift shopping. “Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to do it before, with work. So, we find ourselves in the crowd, with everyone, to give gifts at the last moment and I don’t think anyone is happy to do it. But hey, we have to do it, there are a lot of people, but it doesn’t matter, it’s to please our loved ones.”
A somewhat disappointed customer, but one who is hanging on, just like many latecomers who showed signs of stress when the stores closed their doors only two hours later. But nothing to stop the excitement and the good atmosphere a few hours before New Year’s Eve.
