EXPLANATION FROM BURAK ELMAS
Galatasaray President Burak Elmas, whom we reached on the subject, did not make a clear statement, but said:
“According to our charter, this decision is made by the Council of the Court. The addressee of the issue is not me but the Council of the Court.”
WHAT HAPPENED?
Galatasaray announced on May 5 that the presidential election to be held on May 29 was canceled due to the coronavirus.
Burak Elmas, who was the presidential candidate at that time, had the following reaction to the decision:
“There cannot be an annulment of the election, whose legal calendar is ongoing, and which does not have a legal decision or any obstacle in front of it, by reading intent on behalf of the state organs, authorities and decisions. Postponement conditions and durations are clearly stated in our statute. This choice must be made. In order to show everyone the power of Galatasaray democracy culture, we declare that we will deliver the election lists and related documents to the council committee until the legal deadline on May 7, 2021, at 18:00. We will do our best to reflect the will of the general assembly to the ballot box.”
