And: Liechtenstein is the only team that San Marino has won against so far. In 2004 there was a 1-0 draw in the friendly, two months ago another 1-0 draw in the Nations League and now it’s 3-1. It’s promotion to the C league of the Nations League.

And even more! San Marino can now also dream of the 2026 World Cup in Canada, the USA and Mexico. In qualifying (until March 2026), the 54 European national teams will be drawn into 12 groups of four or five teams. The 12 group winners qualify directly for the tournament. The twelve runners-up make it to the playoffs. In addition, the four best group winners in the Nations League, who do not occupy one of the top two places in their World Cup qualifying group, will also receive a place in the playoffs. And that’s where San Marino comes into play.
If enough Nations League group winners go straight to the final round or the playoffs via the regular qualification route, San Marino could get a place.
