“Last Generation Group Demands Faster Climate Protection through Berlin Protests”

Berlin (dpa/bb) – Activists from the Last Generation group pointed out their demands for faster climate protection on Saturday in Berlin with blockades and protests. Some of their supporters colored the water in the Neptune Fountain on Alexanderplatz with black powder and doused themselves in black glue intended to look like petroleum.

According to the police, 18 people had previously sat down on Tauentzienstraße in City West in the early afternoon, four of them stuck themselves. About 100 onlookers also gathered on the road, as a police spokesman said. Emergency services ended the action within 30 minutes.

According to the police, around 100 supporters of the group started a strolling demonstration at Neukölln’s Hasenheide later in the afternoon. They walked extremely slowly across Gneisenaustrasse. This demonstration in the direction of Gleisdreieckpark has been registered and will be accompanied by the police, the spokesman said.

According to their own statements, the group has been trying to “bring Berlin to a standstill” for about ten days. She calls for urgent action to combat climate change. According to initial information, the police have registered around 80 road blockades since then and initiated 708 criminal and 431 administrative offense proceedings.
