South Africa is the stage of the 23rd season of Who is the mole?. Ten well-known Dutch people have tried to reveal who the saboteur in their midst is. Every week NU.nl speaks with the dropout from the night before. This time is for the last time, with Soy Kroon.
Being the last dropout of the season is a painful honour. Still, Soy Kroon has to deal with very extenuating circumstances, because the actor should have left the playing field weeks ago.
In week four, Kroon got a red screen and should have packed his things. But through a game with suitcases he managed to avoid his fate and just got a few more weeks. A gift, because the actor would have missed out on a lot of great assignments if Annick Boer hadn’t been victimized then.
How hard is this farewell?
“Well, they are certainly extenuating circumstances. That is also why I got out okay. I was able to experience everything except one assignment, while I had already seen that red screen. Of course I would have liked to be in that final I didn’t necessarily have to win it, but I was so close now.”
“The night before I knew it was ready. We had of course done the pre-assignment test and I knew I hadn’t been able to send enough for my answers to be correct.”
You’ve had a red screen before. Was that a wake-up call?
“Enormous! I played the game really fair before that and there was a button. While during that briefcase assignment I actually thought it was done. I did try to steer a bit there, but you didn’t put it in the hand.” We have to give the highest suitcase to the Mole, because then you keep the money in the game,” I then shouted, because I knew that there were quite a few people on me. When Anke (de Jong, ed.) actually gave me one of the top two suitcases, I was so relieved.”
“And immediately afterwards I felt guilty, because I knew that Anke was sitting on me and Nabil (Aoulad Ayad, ed.) And we had just had the highest two suitcases. So I thought she would lose weight. In the end it was Annick.”
“That was strange: suddenly I had to lie to everyone. I had thought beforehand that I wanted to be the Mole. I also always watched the broadcasts with a view to the Mole and then thought about how I would do it. But now I suddenly had to carry a secret with me halfway through the season, while we had been walking a lot with each other the night before the farmer. That hit me hard, I suddenly felt so lonely. It didn’t feel entirely fair, I found that debilitating. Can you find out how it is for the Mole.”
You were not the Mole, but many fellow candidates thought you were suspicious. And on the site of the program you were also one of the most suspicious participants for a long time. How was that?
“So I really had no idea that Ranomi (Kromowidjojo, ed.) had been sitting on me all this time. She didn’t let anything go and she even asked if we couldn’t start a bond. I didn’t realize anything, until we all watched episode 1. Ranomi said she thought I was so suspicious then, haha.”
“Looking back together was the best thing. Because you’ve been through everything together, but of course you have no idea what people said in their confessions. Then you look at each other: oh, so that’s how you talk about me? That I thought that Anke, Daniël and I trusted each other and that she really turned out to be on me for a long time. Haha, yes, I really enjoyed that.”
“There hasn’t been a day when I thought: and now I’m going to sabotage for a while. I always find it so annoying when people who are not the Mole start walking Molly. But I did go ‘schmieren’, as we did in the theater world. That you try to make each other laugh on stage, by suddenly doing something unexpected. I become a kind of happy dog in such a game, I really go ten times as fast. And that’s what I think it is It’s nice to suddenly do something completely different, just to see how people react.”
“That may have made me suspicious. All the crazy theories on social media were so hilarious. That people really thought of everything why it was me. That your music from The Crown hears a broadcast and thinks: Crown, Crown: it’s Soy! Well, not so, haha.”
