GENEVA – Scientists have successfully tested a technology to safely contain lightning bolts using laser beams. Scientists say it is an excellent lightning control method that can be used in high-security areas such as airports and rocket launch sites. It is safer and more accurate than current lightning protection conductors.
The experiment was conducted in the Santis mountain range in Switzerland. During the test period from July to September, 4 lightning bolts were sent to Earth on a laser-guided trajectory. The laser beam heats the air and makes it less dense, making it a conductor to flow down.
