Saturday, October 19 was the Las Vegas Lights‘ final regular season home game, the team was in second place in the Western Conference and looking to stay in a good position to secure a home postseason game.
Something different about this game, compared to other seasons, was that this is the first season in which the soccer team made it to the USL league.
The match did not end as expected, the score against the Oakland Roots was 2 to 3. With this result, the team prepares for the league with only one more away game against North Carolina FC.
But the Las Vegas team showed great form during the match and without losing patience despite losing, however, distractions and errors in the lower half ended with the opposing team’s goals.
The Lights’ rival in the league has not been defined due to the points and the proximity of the teams involved, but the Las Vegas team will seek on the last day to ensure being among the first four places in the conference to guarantee that their first league game is at home.
Despite the defeat, the Lights maintained second position in the Western Conference with 50 points, just one point behind Sacramento, a team that also lost its game on the penultimate day.
Postseason matches in the USL are one game at the home of the highest-ranked team in the table, so a better position will help the Lights be able to play the group stage in Las Vegas.
The Lights’ last game will be Saturday, October 26 at 4 p.m.
