Las Palmas draws prestigiously at Liverpool (0-0) | UD Las Palmas

UD Las Palmas sealed their pre-season with a prestigious draw against Liverpool FC (0-0), in the match that served as a dress rehearsal for the start of the 2024-25 League. The eighth friendly served to check the players’ condition, their understanding of the system and to verify Scott McKenna’s first minutes in the jersey of the Pintaderas.

Las Palmas approached the match with personality, setting up their field of operations in Liverpool’s half from the start. Moleiro was the first yellow player to try his luck. He did so twice during the first 10 minutes, although he was unable to surprise the defence and goalkeeper Kelleher.

The friendly match became more balanced in the following minutes, with Gakpo also having a good chance. The play was aborted by the intervention of Cillessen, who saved the shot of the rival attacker when the clock had reached the 15th minute.

Luis Carrión’s players caused their opponents concern again with a set piece from a corner. The final shot was from Alex Suárez, but goalkeeper Kelleher denied the goal by blocking the Gran Canarian player’s shot on the line. There were no dividends on the scoreboard, but the designed action was interpreted with precision.

The first half was tied and during this period, the ball hit the crossbar of the rival team from Las Palmas. The play was forged with a move and cross from the right by Marvin Park. Defender Robertson headed the ball to prevent a shot, but the ball flew to the top of the crossbar before ending up in a corner.

The first period ended in a goalless draw with both teams sharing possession and chances in the empty stands of Anfield Road.

The match continued along the same lines for a few minutes in the second half. However, another knock on the woodwork was heard. This time it was home side Elliott, with a hard shot that hit Cillessen’s post.

The UD Las Palmas goalkeeper had more work to do in the second half, especially after the wave of substitutions after the hour mark. Liverpool’s players sought the goal, forcing their rivals to retreat. But they were unable to change the score.

However, the final great chance of the match was for the Canary Islands. Kirian found a path for Benito and the player from Aldea placed a precise ball in the area. However, Iván Gil did not connect with the shot when he was already in front of Kelleher and there were only 3 minutes left until the end.
