Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is once again the Canarian municipality with the most active cases of COVID-19 | BE Las Palmas | Hour 14 Las Palmas

The evolution of COVID-19 in the Canary Islands once again makes the province of Las Palmas the epicenter of the pandemic in the Islands. While the incidence on the island of Tenerife is decreasing, with about 118 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in its capital, in Gran Canaria and Lanzarote the virus continues to gain ground.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is once again the Canarian municipality with the most active cases of COVID-19. Right now, one out of every four infected on the islands is in the capital of Gran Canaria, which has a cumulative incidence at 7 days of more than 208 active cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Despite this, it is not the worst figure that the city has registered. At the end of August, the current figure was already reached, reaching its maximum on September 4, with 304 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and which did not drop below 200 cases until almost a month later. In just one month, COVID infections have increased by more than 2,400.

Despite this, the Canarian town with the most worrying data is Arrecife. The capital of Lanzarote has 743 people infected with COVID-19, which raises its cumulative incidence to 7 days to more than 858 positives per 100,000 residents, four times more than the AI of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. At 14 days, the AI exceeds 1,282 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, almost triple the state average. In the last month, almost the same people have been infected as in the entire pandemic. Since December 19, 1,057 people have been infected of the 2,540 accumulated cases on the island of volcanoes.

The metropolitan area of Tenerife continues to be the area with the most active cases. Santa Cruz de Tenerife and La Laguna add up to more than 3,500 active cases of the 8,163 positive COVID cases in the Canary Islands.
