The authorities and leaders of the Velille district, Chumbivilcas province, Cusco region, and the representatives of the mining company MMG Las Bambas signed a cooperation agreement to ensure a climate of social peace in the South Road Corridor, after intense work by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) and the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) as facilitators of the dialogue, developed through a virtual platform.
Among the agreements reached by the parties, after a long debate and presentation of ideas, it is highlighted that the mining company MMG Las Bambas will make a voluntary social contribution in favor of the Velille district for a single amount of S / 3 million that covers the years 2020 and 2021, for the execution of sustainable development projects that include the neighborhoods and communities of the Velille district.
According to the minutes of the meeting, sustainable development projects will be identified and prioritized by a Management Committee, which will be made up of representatives of Las Bambas and the Velille district, to later be socialized in a Multisectoral Assembly at the district level.
Likewise, the company will donate for one time to the Velille district, as a voluntary social contribution, two ambulances that will be delivered until the end of May 2021, and will finance the realization of a medical campaign this year, when the measures are lifted. of sanitary isolation and in coordination with the Regional Directorate of Health (Diresa).
The representatives of the mining company also undertook, in coordination with the municipality of Velille, to manage an Information and Communication Technology project – ICT (CUI 2499424), the amount of which exceeds S / 15 million and to finance its execution through the mechanism of Works for Taxes, for which which must be prioritized and accepted by the Ministry of Education.
The mining company, likewise, agreed to communicate to the district population the call for available pre-professional practices and future calls for job positions, so that citizens can apply. This initiative will be carried out in coordination with a committee that will be implemented in that place.
According to the minutes, the parties indicated that with the preceding agreements, the agenda of the Velille district is addressed and they undertake to live together harmoniously and in a climate of social peace, always prioritizing dialogue on both sides.
The Minem remarked that the agreements reached demonstrate once again that the virtual platform is an adequate mechanism to reach consensus when there is a will and vocation for dialogue. Therefore, he pointed out that it will continue to fulfill its functions and commitments in all spaces and dialogue tables until sanitary conditions allow face-to-face meetings again.
