Outbreak at the Regional Hospital of Pembroke

An outbreak is underway at the Regional Hospital of Pembroke. A second employee has tested positive for COVID-19.

Only the emergency department would be affected where a first case of the virus was identified on December 27, according to a press release from the hospital.

No patient was identified as high risk contact with the two infected staff.

The president and CEO of the hospital, Pierre Noel, indicates that no employee at high risk of exposure has worked since the first case was identified.

According to Dr Robert Cushman, Acting Medical Officer of Health for the Health Unit Renfrew, the hospital evaluated patients who visited the emergency department on key dates and that there were no violations of protocols.

Dr Cushman reassures the population that the emergency department is safe and that it will continue its work with the hospital to end the outbreak.
