There may be a major corona outbreak on the cargo ship “Yeoman Bank”. As the accident command announced, a seaman died on Wednesday night.

There is a suspicion that the man was infected with the coronavirus. The freighter was assigned a place of refuge in the Elbe port of Brunsbüttel (Dithmarschen district). There are more people on board with signs of infection to be tested today. The crew are not allowed to leave the ship. Employees of the Dithmarschen District Health Office are on site. You are supposed to go on board during the day, examine the 27 seafarers and take smears. In addition, the Brunsbüttel seaman’s mission takes care of the crew. One wants to provide the seafarers with food and also provide psychological support, so a spokesman.

Crew member died on board

The ship is in a place of refuge in the Elbe port of Brunsbüttel.

Unloading the cargo and continuing the journey with the freighter is prohibited until further notice. The freighter was on its way from Great Britain to Brunsbüttel when the crew member suddenly felt bad. Other crew members tried to reanimate him, as reported by NDR 1 Lower Saxony. An emergency doctor brought on board by helicopter could no longer help the man.

Waiting for the test results

The Cuxhaven accident command has taken over the overall command. If all crew members were tested negative, the freighter could be unloaded and sailed again, a spokesman said. In the event of even one positive test result, the entire crew may have to be replaced. A spokesman for the Dithmarschen district has not yet been able to say when the test results will be available.
