Research shows that breasts can cause health problems in men. What’s more, research shows: the risk of death is greater in men with breasts.
A Danish study followed a total of around 140,000 men between 1995 and 2021. Of these, 23,000 were diagnosed with gynecomastia, a severe enlargement of the male mammary gland. It subsequently turned out that this group of men has a 37 percent higher risk of dying at the age of 75 than the group without the aforementioned diagnosis.
Extremely dangerous
In the 23,000 men who had the enlarged mammary gland, conditions such as cancer, lung and intestinal diseases and circulatory diseases were particularly dangerous, writes the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet.
In some cases, men choose to reduce or remove their breasts through plastic surgery. Henrik Falhammar, professor at Karolinska University Hospital in Sweden, says: “First and foremost you should try to treat the pre-existing conditions. Plastic surgery alone will not remove the conditions.”
How do you prevent man boobs?
Men with breasts are often overweight, in the sense that fat accumulates in the breasts. However, this does not necessarily have to be gynecomastia. It’s really all about the mammary gland and whether it grows or not. If you are not sure what you have, it is advisable to have yourself checked by your doctor.
How do you ensure that you don’t get man breasts? Tips, according to experts, are of course losing weight, avoiding alcohol and drugs and hormone treatment. If the problem is only accumulated fat and not an enlarged mammary gland, plastic surgery is also an option.
