The police were notified of the incident at 14.07.
The avalanche has been observed on the east side, and there is a great danger that new avalanches may occur on the site, the Main Rescue Center writes on Twitter.
At 4 pm, the police report that they have been in contact with three people who have been in the area where the landslide was triggered. These are in good condition and have not been taken by landslides, they write on Twitter.
The police have not received signals from the avalanche detector so far in the search. It is only searched from the air.
– We were notified of a small landslide, but when we got there we saw that the landslide was much larger. There are ski tracks into the avalanche, but we do not know if there are old or new tracks, says operations manager Jan Kristian Johnsrud to TV 2.
Rescue helicopters, air ambulances, police helicopters and avalanche dogs have been sent to Gaustatoppen after a report of a major landslide. The police task force leader is on site, the police in the South-East report on Twitter.
– We do not know if there is anyone in the avalanche, but we can not rule it out. Therefore, we pressed the big, red button, says the operations manager.
Gaustatoppen is located by Rjukan and is a popular destination for hikers. The mountain is 1882 meters high, and is known to be the mountain peak in Norway where you have a view of most of Norway’s land area.
