Stock palm cooking oil packaged in a number of supermarkets in Solo suddenly overflowing.
The stock flood occurred after the government revoked the regulation regarding the Highest Retail Price (HET) for cooking oil, Wednesday (16/3).
Monitoring CNNIndonesia.com At the Luwes Kestalan and Luwes Gading supermarkets, packaged palm cooking oil is priced at Rp.23-Rp.24 thousand.
Luwes is a supermarket that is a reference for residents of Solo and its surroundings to shop for household needs. The price increase surprised some residents who wanted to buy oil for their daily needs.
“Yesterday it was difficult to find oil, now the goods are there but the price is very expensive,” said Nusukan resident Maya (32).
Another resident, Istiqomah (35) also expressed the same disappointment. The Purwodiningratan resident was forced to buy oil at high prices for his stall needs.
“Had to buy. If you don’t buy it, you can’t sell it,” he said.
Although he has to bear the increase in cooking oil prices, he does not plan to increase the price of his merchandise. However, he plans to deal with the increase in oil prices by reducing the size of the fried foods he sells.
“If we increase the price, nobody wants to buy it. But if we reduce the size, at least we can still get some (profit) even if it’s a little,” he said.
Different things happened in Surabaya. Packaged cooking oil in a number of retail stores in Surabaya is still rare after the revocation of the HET.
One of them is in Indomaret, Gunung Anyar, where the stock of cooking oil is observed to be empty. The shelves that used to be used to display various brands of oil are now even removed.
“Out of stock, this shelf is used for [produk] others are temporary,” said one of Indomaret Sadam’s employees when met by CNNIndonesia.com, Thursday (17/3).
