Under normal circumstances, the law on retail sales hours applies on public holidays on 28 October, when large stores are not allowed to operate. The state of emergency has been in force in the Czech Republic since 5 October, and was due to end on 3 November. Sales restrictions on selected holidays in stores over 200 square meters apply from the end of 2016. Business associations have repeatedly criticized the sales time law. On the contrary, trade unions are working to extend regulation to all 13 holidays.
