Large-Scale Operation in Hesse Targets Child Abuse and Child Pornography

Wiesbaden – In a major operation aimed at combating the sexual abuse of children, 254 investigators conducted searches in 74 private apartments across Hesse. The accused individuals are facing charges related to child abuse as well as the creation, possession, or distribution of child pornography.

The operation was carried out by the BAO FOKUS (special organizational structure for cross-case organizational structure against child pornography and sexual abuse of children) of the Hessian State Criminal Police Office (LKA). A total of 254 investigators were involved in the operation, with the homes of 68 men and 6 women being searched.

The accused individuals range in age from 14 to 80 and come from various cities including Wiesbaden, Frankfurt, Offenbach, Darmstadt, Gießen, and Kassel, as well as from several districts including Offenbach, Main-Kinzig, Schwalm-Eder, Kassel, Wetterau, Marburg-Biedenkopf, Lahn-Dill, Fulda, Hersfeld-Rotenburg, Vogelsberg, Rheingau-Taunus, Hochtaunus, Main-Taunus, Limburg-Weilburg, Gross-Gerau, and Bergstrasse.

Out of the accused, eleven individuals are alleged to have sexually abused children or adolescents, while 63 are suspected of producing, owning, or distributing child or adolescent pornography. According to the current status of the investigation, there is no evidence of contact between the men and women involved.

During the searches, a total of 606 objects, mostly data carriers, were seized. These items are now being processed by forensic scientists. Investigators are meticulously reviewing all images and films, conducting forensic evaluations, and checking for further investigative leads. The aim is to either substantiate or refute all allegations against each individual accused.

In a related development, Pascal K. (44) was arrested for possessing child pornography on his personal computer. The arrest was made by the Special Deployment Command (SEK). The source of this information is PICTURE, dated November 18, 2021.

The BAO FOKUS was established in October 2020 and consists of 300 investigators who specialize in sifting through suspicious files and searching for suspects involved in child pornography and sexual abuse cases. Since its inception, the unit has investigated 1,800 suspects, seized over 67,900 data carriers, and executed 68 arrest warrants.

The LKA acknowledges the psychological toll that prosecuting pedo-criminal offenders takes on the employees of BAO FOKUS. They are often exposed to disturbing images and videos during their work. To support them, an allowance of 300 euros will be provided to these investigators in the future.

The fight against child abuse and child pornography remains a top priority for law enforcement agencies, and operations like this one in Hesse demonstrate the commitment to bringing offenders to justice and protecting the most vulnerable members of society.
