Large-scale operation in Siebnen SZ – kitchen fire in apartment building

On the night of Thursday, August 13, 2020, a fire broke out in an apartment building in Siebnen. The Schübelbach fire brigade, several rescue services, the first-aid unit and the Siebnen disaster, the Schwyz cantonal police and two rescue helicopters were all involved in fighting the fire and looking after the around 40 residents. Four people had to be hospitalized.

Shortly before 4 a.m., the operations center received a report that a fire had broken out in the kitchen of an apartment building.

A 19-year-old tried unsuccessfully to put out the fire. The residents were able to make the other residents of the house aware of the fire and get themselves to safety. Due to the heavy smoke development, they went to the balcony until they were looked after by the emergency services and escorted out of the building.

Of the fire Department Schübelbach quickly managed to contain the fire and then ventilate the building.

Three residents of the apartment on fire were transferred to the hospital with minor injuries for further medical treatment. A 59-year-old resident of the house had to be flown to a special clinic in a rescue helicopter from the Alpine Air Ambulance due to existing medical problems.

The fire apartment was badly damaged by the fire. The remaining apartments are still habitable.

The Cantonal Police Schwyz has started the investigation into the cause of the fire.
