At around 1:30 p.m. on Friday, a passer-by reported to the police that a youth was standing opposite the Maryland School with a gun in hand. The school principal, who was then notified, arranged for the students to be locked up, while the police drove to the school with several patrols and cordoned them off. A search for the youngster was unsuccessful and the measures were rolled back around 4.30 p.m. The Karlsruhe police announced this in a press release.
Shortly after 1.30 p.m., a passerby noticed a youngster in front of the Maryland School who, according to her, was holding a gun in his hands and notified the police. The school administration, in turn informed by the police, then arranged for the students and teachers to be locked in their classrooms.
The school was then cordoned off by the police, after which the schoolhouse and the gymnasium were searched without any results.
Mission measures ended in the meantime
“After a specific threat situation could be ruled out, the pupils and the teachers were brought out of the school building in an orderly fashion and initially looked after by teachers and police officers. The pupils were then picked up by their legal guardians. A total of 35 pupils and supervisors were affected,” it says in the press release.
The operational measures were ended around 4.30 p.m. A total of 80 police officers from the police headquarters, the federal police and 10 emergency vehicles from the rescue service were on site.
