“No one died and everyone is fine, but the building is completely destroyed,†said Nabeel Fakhruddin, a friend of an affected resident.
In less than a week, another large-scale fire broke out in New York, this time affecting a residential area in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn.
What started as a three-alarm emergency soon escalated to four.
The Fire Department required 39 units and 168 rescuers to control the flames, which began around 4 a.m. on Friday at 137 Kingsland Avenue and spread to surrounding properties. Seven people suffered minor injuries and there was no loss of life.
At the time, the firefighters posted a message on social networks with images about the fire and their activities to control it.
At around 4am, the FDNY responded to 137 Kingsland Avenue in Brooklyn. Arriving units found a heavy fire condition. Fire spread to homes on the left, right, and rear. It quickly went up to 4 alarms. Five people sustained minor injuries. The cause is under investigation. pic.twitter.com/OjBAiRuufQ

A young woman had just arrived from work when she saw that her home was on fire.
“I had just gotten home and I heard that a building was on fire and it moved to my building. Thank God my mom is okay, she burned her arm and has bladders on her fingers,†Kaitlyn Cusumano said.
For his part, Nabeel and his partner arrived on the scene from Queens to bring a childhood friend boots and coats for the cold, since he lived on the third floor and lost both his apartment and all his belongings.
“I talked to him yesterday and I don’t talk to him every day and when he called me saying that I thought I was going to die, that broke my heart because it’s my best friend. We went here to MS 126, this is our neighborhood,” Nabeel said.
The Red Cross has provided emergency assistance to eight homes, for a total of 13 adults and 1 minor. Those people who have been affected and still do not have help, can call the 877-Red Cross line.
The causes of this fire remain under investigation. For its part, the fire department always reminds us to have the fire alarms up to date, especially in this winter season where more cases of this type tend to occur.
