Large-Scale Attack on Historical Center of Odessa: Appeal to UNESCO and Hague Convention

Last night, there was a large-scale attack on the historical center of Odessa – apart from the Transfiguration Cathedral, several other historical buildings were damaged, UNIAN reports.

In connection with the destruction of the Odesa center under the protection of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization by Russian aggressors, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine will appeal to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee and the Second Protocol Committee of the Hague Convention.

ICIP notes that the Transfiguration Cathedral in the center of Odessa (restored in 2007), as well as historical buildings – the House of Scientists, residential buildings, the building of the Odessa State Musical Lyceum named after Professor PS Stolyarsky, as well as the infrastructure facilities of the port, were damaged as a result of the Russian shelling at night. Information on damage and casualties is being clarified.

“ICIP is preparing relevant appeals to UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee and the Second Protocol Committee of the Hague Convention,” the report said.
