Large police presence at the March for Läbe in Zurich-Oerlikon

(Keystone-SDA) More than 1,000 people from all over Switzerland met on Saturday in Zurich-Oerlikon for the March for Läbe to demonstrate the “right to life”. Their march through the neighborhood was interrupted several times by a velodemo on the left.

This year, the organizers of the March for Läbe called for a gathering at the Oerlikon train station and a walk together through the neighborhood under the motto “Stand up for life”. Everyone has the right to live.

The road to protecting unborn life is long, said EPP National Councilor Marc Jost. “It’s about life, we have to work for it.” In the rally call, the organizers wrote that Switzerland needs better conditions for expectant mothers and offers of help to families in need – so that every child can live. Around 30 babies in Switzerland are “killed before birth” every day.

As usual, the Swiss march for Läbe took place on Saturday evening before the Federal Day of Thanksgiving, Repentance and Prayer. And it was accompanied by a large police presence again – because of the fear of the left.

Around 200 participants in a velodemo crossed the march route several times, chanting “My body, my decision” and delayed the march.

Zurich city police took note of the incident in a statement on Saturday evening. After calls for disruptive actions, more than 100 people were searched and turned away in the area around the march. Five people were temporarily taken to a station for further clarification.

The organizers estimated the number of participants in a statement at around 1,600 people.
