France, Bulgaria, Croatia are among the countries that are green for Norwegians from 5 July. The same applies to Crete and a number of regions in Sweden and Denmark.

There will no longer be a requirement for testing for you travel into Norway from green countries. Quarantine is also not necessary when you arrive in Norway. It states Ministry of Health Friday.

However, you must still fill out a form to register before entry. You must also be tested at the border on arrival, unless you have been fully vaccinated or have been registered as infected in the last six months.

The requirement for testing is due to concerns that the more contagious delta variant will become the dominant variant in Norway.

Many countries to choose from

Those who live in green countries are exempt from the entry ban to Norway. But the changes also benefit Norwegians.

This is good news for those who want to go abroad this summer. The list of potential destinations has been greatly expanded. Popular holiday countries such as France, Croatia, Bulgaria and Malta are now among the green countries.

A separate assessment has also been made for selected archipelagos in Europe. The Greek island of Crete is now green. There are also Corsica and Madeira, while the Canary Islands are still red.

Many green regions in Sweden

Norwegians who miss shopping or visiting the cabin in Sweden can also enjoy themselves.

Many Swedish regions are now turning green. This includes Västra Götaland, which includes Strömstad, Västerbotten, Gotland and Stockholm.

In Denmark, all regions, ie Zealand, Southern Denmark, Central Jutland and North Jutland, are green. Copenhagen is still orange.

Purple country outside Europe

There is also a whole new category – purple land. These are countries on the EU’s list of safe third countries where the EU believes that the infection situation here provides a basis for milder entry rules when traveling to Norway, such as releasing quarantine hotels. The Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH) has for the first time assessed the countries on this list.

– Everyone who has stayed in a purple country has the same requirements for testing, entry registration and entry quarantine as those who come from red countries. These rules may change, and purple land will therefore be regulated in a separate category in the covid-19 regulations, the Ministry of Health states.

This applies to the USA, Australia, New Zealand and Japan, among others.

Still recommend spending your holiday in Norway

Despite the major changes, the government recommends that Norwegians holiday here at home this summer.

– It is the safest and most predictable. The entry rules of the various countries can be changed at short notice if the infection situation worsens, it is said.

From 5 July, the threshold for what is considered a green country will change, and Norway will then follow EU levels. You then release the entry quarantine when you return home from countries in the EEA / Schengen and the United Kingdom with fewer than 50 infected per. 100,000 inhabitants in the last two weeks. Less than 4 percent of all corona tests must also be positive.

You are also released from quarantine when there are fewer than 75 infected per. 100,000 inhabitants in the last two weeks, but then less than 1 percent of all tests must be positive.
