Around the National Remembrance Day tomorrow, a large part of Dam Square in Amsterdam is off limits to the public. Mayor Halsema has decided that. The emergency ordinance applies from 3 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
It is not new that the municipality is introducing an emergency ordinance during Remembrance Day, writes NH News. This year, the mayor adds the consideration “that events such as the murders of various people, including a lawyer and a journalist, show that there is a concrete (life) danger for a number of those present. A relatively small disturbance can already have far-reaching consequences by the (panic) reaction of the crowd,” the mayor writes.
People who have a view of Dam Square from their home are not allowed to open their windows between 7:30 PM and 9:00 PM. It is also not allowed to stand on roof terraces or balconies that have a direct view of Dam Square.
