Large hole in Rotterdam shopping street created by burst water pipes

In a shopping street in the Rotterdam neighborhood Oude Noorden a big hole has appeared. A water pipe in Zwart Janstraat burst there last night around 4 a.m., causing the street to fill with water. It is not yet known whether it caused water damage to the adjacent catering and retail properties, regional broadcaster reports Rhine estuary.

Water company Evides closed the pipeline around 5.30 am. As a result, about 150 connections to this water pipe around Zwart Janstraat have no water. A spokesman for Evides informs Rijnmond that the company hopes that the water supply and the street will be repaired by 12:00.

Until then, local residents can tap water at two water taps that the company has installed.
