A forest fire in southern Turkey spread to the city of Manavgat in Antalya county on Wednesday. Strong winds give oxygen to the flames, which causes the fire to grow faster and larger.
Manavgat is located 75 kilometers east of the resort town of Antalya and 60 kilometers west of Alanya, which are favorite holiday destinations for many Norwegians every year.
– The fire has spread to the city center. It grows even bigger with the wind. It is impossible for us to map the damage. There is damage in the villages as well, says the mayor of Manavgat, Sukru Sozen to the Turkish broadcaster Haberturk.

In recent weeks, Turkey has been hit by several natural disasters that are said to have been made more likely as a result of climate change, in addition to the forest fire that is now raging.
Recently, the country has been affected by an exhausting heat wave, while a major flood in the Black Sea in early July claimed six lives, according to the Turkish emergency office AFAD.
