Large forest area near Hainburg burned down

The fire brigade fought a massive forest fire in the Offenbach district on around 3,000 square kilometers. Fires broke out in the affected area at the end of March.

In a fire near Hainburg-Hainstadt (Offenbach district), a 3,000 square meter forest caught fire on Sunday night.

Residents from the local area near the Katzenbuckel forest car park between Hainstadt and Obertshausen had become aware of the firelight in the forest and the heavy smoke development and had made the emergency call. As a result, a large contingent of the fire brigade was deployed and, according to their own statements, was busy with the extinguishing work until Sunday noon.

According to a reporter on site, several fire engines had gotten stuck on the way to the site in the damp forest floor. A total of over 80 people and 21 vehicles were employed in the forest. The police and the responsible district forester were also at the scene. What is particularly striking is that there have been more fires in this wooded area in recent weeks. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are not yet clear – the police are investigating.
