A large fire is raging on the Kwadrantweg in the Western Port area of Amsterdam. An NL-Alert was sent around 9.10 pm because a lot of smoke is released. The fire brigade advises residents to stay out of the smoke, close doors and windows and turn off the ventilation. People are also being urged not to come to the location of the fire.
The fire, which broke out around 7.45 pm, started in a mountain of scrap metal at a recycling company on Kwadrantweg.
The fire brigade says it is “with man and power” to put out the fire. A lot of equipment and men have been pulled out.
A spokesperson for the fire service explains that measurements are also being taken. “Smoke is always harmful”, he explains, but it is being looked into whether there are “additional dangers”.
The smoke is clearly visible in various places in the city, but also outside it. This is how it writes AT5 that tipsters report that the smoke clouds can be seen from, among others, IJmuiden, Almere and Lelystad.
