Large fire on Nøtterøy – several apartments totally damaged – VG


TOTAL DAMAGE: All apartments are completely damaged. Efforts are being made to provide shelter for 16 people.

Everyone in the apartment complex has been accounted for after the fire on Nøtterøy in Færder municipality.

– A person has been sent to the emergency room for a check, says operations manager Per Arne Amundsen to VG.

All apartments are completely damaged. A total of ten housing units burned. When the fire brigade arrived at the scene, it burned in the facade of four apartments and near the hot roof was on fire.

– It’s over-ignition, so it will burn down. There is no danger of spreading, says Amundsen.

Efforts are being made to provide shelter for 16 people. They are initially sent to a nearby health center.

The fire service was notified of the fire at 02.45. Crews from three of VIB’s fire stations have been involved. In addition, they received assistance from station Stokke and Sandefjord fire and rescue.

– We have worked hard to prevent the spread to two neighboring buildings and the boat center, says on-duty fire chief Tor-Atle Jakobsen.

– The radiant heat threatened a semi-detached house, where the windows cracked. Good efforts from the crews prevented further injuries, says Jakobsen.
