Large fire in shed of riding school in Wouwse Plantage, asbestos also released

On the grounds of a riding school in Wouwse Plantage, a barn with hay is on fire. A lot of smoke is released as a result, and asbestos was also released during the fire. This is reported by the Brabant Central and West Brabant Security Region. No injuries were reported and the horses are not in danger.

It concerns Equestrian Sports Center West Brabant where equestrian sports are practiced. There are several attached stables on the site. The shed with hay is separate from that. The fire brigade wants to prevent the fire from spreading to the larger complex.

Initially, as many as seventeen fire trucks turned out for the fire. The majority of these consisted of water cars, because there was not enough water in the area. In the meantime, a suitable source would have been found nearby. A water transport is currently being constructed and some of the water trucks are therefore returning to the barracks.

Asbestos
A spokesperson for the Safety Region reports that asbestos has been released, which is why a specialist company is being called in. They will clean up the asbestos particles, which will mainly be done on their own site. Local residents are not bothered by this because they are far away from the site, the spokesman said.

The Safety Region says that there is a lot of smoke development, it advises in case of nuisance to keep windows and doors closed and to switch off ventilation systems.

Horses in the meadow
The horses from the riding school were in another shed and have since been taken outside, they are now in a meadow.

No one was injured in the fire.
