In Elburg, in the northwest of the province of Gelderland, a large fire broke out in a commercial building. The fire broke out late last night and around 1 a.m. the security region reported that the building had burned out. As far as is known, no one was injured.
Only the walls of the company building are still standing. Part of it will have to be demolished to extinguish the fire. It is clear that the fire started at an events company, but the cause is still unknown.
Because the fire led to so-called flying fire – a large shower of sparks – the fire brigade was on site with extra fire extinguishing vehicles. In a residential area nearby there are many houses with thatched roofs, which may have been at risk as a result. Shortly after midnight, there was no longer a fire hazard for the residential area, reports the North and East Gelderland Security Region. No homes have been evacuated.
Local residents are advised to close windows and doors and to switch off ventilation in connection with the smoke. An NL-Alert has been sent in Elburg and part of Flevoland.
