Large fire destroys Flagtwedde restaurant

A large, blazing fire in Vlagtwedde in Groningen completely destroyed a restaurant. The fire started in the kitchen of Turkish restaurant De Sultan towards the end of the evening.

After about half an hour, the fire was so great that the fire brigade considered the building lost. “We are working hard on the surrounding buildings,” the fire brigade reported. The house on one side of the restaurant and the conference center on the other side were saved in the nick of time. Nobody was injured. Someone who lived in an apartment above the restaurant could get away on time.

A man lift was used to extinguish the fire. At the beginning of the night the fire was under control, a few hours later the fire was completely out.

To prevent collapse, the walls of the restaurant that were still standing were knocked down with a crane.
