The Guardia Civil, Spain’s civil guard, reports that 31 people have been arrested in the province of Almería following a major drug seizure.

At the same time, 3,055 kilograms of hashish, 30 vehicles, a machine gun, six pistols and a number of other weapons were seized. 60,000 euros in cash, which corresponds to almost NOK 675,00, has also been seized.

The individuals are said to be affiliated with the notorious Rifeño clan, which is described as one of the most violent groups in the province of Almería.

19 have been imprisoned and charged with, among other things, association with a criminal organisation, drug trafficking, illegal possession of weapons and explosives and document forgery.

The Civil Guard further writes that the clan is known to have used extreme violence in the form of firearms, Molotov cocktails and spiked chains in the fight against the police.

A total of eight addresses were inspected in the cities of Huércal de Almería, Vícar and the city of Almería.
