For two years, the members of the Laredo Next Generation Rotary Club (LNGRC) have joined the non-profit organization The Street Store to provide clothing, hygiene items and basic necessities to the less privileged in the community.
When one of the club members found out that there was an organization that supported the homeless by providing them with clothing, they decided to contact them for a similar event that would meet, at the same time, the objectives of The Street Store and one of the areas LNGRC’s focus, which is to help those in need.
“We were contacted immediately, so we received approval from The Street Store to bring this event to Laredo,” said Ana Luisa Ramírez, LNGRC Vice President of Public Image. “As soon as we were approved, we got down to business, collected clothes and had our first successful event, The Street Store Laredo, at Plaza Bruni in December 2019.”
Ramírez added that for reasons beyond their control, in 2020, they only donated food in the square, but now for 2021 they have thought about doing it again.
“Now, for 2021, we think it was time to do it again, because the response from our colleagues and the public has been very good,” said Ramírez.
Ramírez explained the dynamics of the event, which consists of organizing the clothes that have been donated as if it were a store. The clothes can be found by size, colors and sections for adults, boys and girls.
“People in need can visit the store that will be established again in Plaza Bruni, they can” buy “what they want with tickets that we will distribute previously. The special thing about the event is that they will be able to choose their clothes as if it were a store ”, he highlighted.
Ramírez is appealing to the generosity of the community to donate clothing and hygiene items to those most in need.
“We invite all the people of Laredo to please participate with donations. We are very happy to have the opportunity to carry out this beautiful event again and I want to thank in advance all those who donate or will donate to fulfill our purpose ”, concluded Ramírez.
The Street Store Laredo 2021 event will take place on Saturday, December 4, from 9 am to 12 pm at Plaza Bruni, 1120 San Bernardo Ave.
Donations of clothing, hygiene items, and canned food will be received at Grupo Casanova, 318 Houston St., from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday through December 3, or the same day at the event venue. . Donated clothing is requested to be organized by size and whether it is children’s or adult clothing. Cash donations are also received through Venmo @NextGenerationRotary.
