Myocarditis was most common in men younger than 40 years of age. Pericarditis has also been reported mainly in men. This also included the elderly. Lareb points out that the heart infections are “known rare side effects” of the vaccines from Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna.
Vaccine not always the cause
According to the center, three people have died of heart problems after myocarditis or pericarditis after vaccination with Pfizer/BioNTech. “Infections or other heart conditions may also have played a role in these reports. The fact that myocarditis or pericarditis occurs after vaccination does not mean that the vaccine is always the cause,” Lareb emphasizes. Two people died of a heart infection after a shot with the Janssen vaccine and one after being vaccinated with AstraZeneca. “These are no known side effects of these vaccines,” according to the Side Effects Center.
Risk covid greater
Of the total number of reports, 274 of the cases concerned pericarditis and 99 cases of myocarditis. Lareb indicates that studies show that the risk of myocarditis and pericarditis due to Covid is greater than from the corona vaccines. “Doctors and people who are vaccinated should pay close attention to symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain and irregular heartbeat, which may indicate myocarditis or pericarditis. Anyone who has these complaints should contact a doctor. The complaints usually go away on their own or can be treated well with medication,” according to the organization.
Embolism and blood clot
Lareb also received 2,080 reports of thrombosis and emboli, a blood clot in a blood vessel, after corona vaccinations. Thrombosis and pulmonary embolism also occur separately from vaccination, the center emphasizes. Lareb has started a follow-up study in collaboration with the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) into the risk of thrombosis after corona vaccination.
In addition, Lareb announced that so far 683 reports of death after a corona jab have been made. Death after vaccination does not mean that a side effect of the vaccine is the cause of death, according to the center. (ANP)
