You still haven’t really gotten used to the fact that Lionel Messi wears the Paris Saint-Germain shirt and left his youth club, FC Barcelona. However, a return of the Argentinian magician to the Catalans is not out of the question. In any case, President Laporta wants Messi to end his career at Barcelona.
Last summer, Lionel Messi left FC Barcelona – not entirely voluntarily. The Catalans couldn’t or didn’t want to afford an extension at the time. It’s a bit strange when you consider that the same club invests millions in new players almost every week. Ironically, for the club icon par excellence, the money is said to have been tight.
Club boss Laporta also seems to regret having to let Lionel Messi go. After all, he also “stole” the darling from his own followers. The Spaniard now plans to make amends with the fans and Messi himself.
“We have a moral debt to Leo Messi,” explained Laporte, expressing a clear wish: “I want an end to his playing career where he wears the Barça shirt and is applauded in every stadium,” he explained.
Lionel Messi only has one contract left at PSG until 2023 plus an option to extend it. It is therefore quite possible that the Argentine will return to Barcelona as early as next summer. Such return campaigns are not that rare. Most recently, a Dani Alves kicked again in the Barça jersey at the age of almost 40. Juve icons like Bonucci and Buffon have also rejoined the old lady after a temporary change. Seeing Messi in Barça dress again in the future would therefore be a realistic scenario – provided that the club is not broke by then.
